TUCKED BETWEEN the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers, the community of Powell, (no longer a village, when considering population,) offers a step back in time with its quaint, small-town atmosphere. Along with antique and specialty shops, there is casual dining in town and "destination" restaurants within a short drive.
LOCATED ONE BLOCK EAST of the center of town is the restored 1889 Martin-Perry Homestead, headquarters for the Powell-Liberty Historical Society. Saved from demolition in 1986 by society members and named for the two families who lived in it, the eight room house in now a showplace of rural Victorian furnishings and memorabilia. The house includes many original family pieces, as well as artifacts, genealogy information and a small research library, with emphasis on the Powell, Liberty, and Hyatts histories.
Grounds of the Martin-Perry Homestead include a restored privy and delightful gardens of Victorian flowers and herbs, planted and maintained by the Powell Area Garden Club.
